I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For Ice Cream
Thursday, 11th November 2010. Marbella.
Contemporary Andalucia is branded and sold as the Costa Del Sol, and is widely known as a meeting place and safe haven for white collar criminals, Russian mobsters and Pakistani gunrunners. Downtown Marbella, in the extension of Alameda Park, the walk to the seafront is adorned with Salvador Dali’s beautifully surrealistic sculptures celebrating the end of fascism in Spain and the constitutional freedom of expression. The beachfront, however, is another story.
Marbella is the only Spanish city which has lost its right to local governance to Madrid due to extensive corruption. The city’s last elected mayors were a bartender and a secretary. Both were jailed for taking bribes from construction companies during the building boom.
