queen Liliʻuokalani was the last monarch of Hawaii before the coup in 1893. she was also the only queen ever to reign over the islands. queen Lili is said to have played the piano, guitar, organ and the ukulele, and is famous for composing the classic “Aloha Oe” which has come to symbolize Hawaii and the aloha spirit. the song is inspired by Liliʻuokalani’s witnessing colonel James Harbottle Boyd saying farewell to a young Hawaiian girl in 1877.

Elvis Presley covered the song for his 1961 movie “Blue Hawaii“.

(edit: Elvis wasn’t a lousy swimmer, he just couldn’t get his hair wet 😀 )

He sure is a lousy swimmer. But he’s the king. Me, I’m a lousy swimmer but never been & never will be king. Just a poor & lonesome cowboy a long way from home. Two gems, captein!

All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.
