“And I fly away beyond these walls / Up above the clouds where the rain don’t fall on a poor man’s dream.” (Tom Russell)
Oh buddy, let’s keep on flying. And all these walls just tell us to get over & see the wide open road, the wide open plain & the endless horizon. No poor man’s dreams anymore. Just some good old country songs, the blues & flying. Brother, always flying!
ay, Fritsch, buddy, let’s fly and let’s run while we can ’cause there’s nothing but a preacher and a cheap pine box for us down the road, so let’s fly and let’s run where the rain don’t fall, buddy
Takes me back to a night in Bergen. 1991, about this time of the year. Tom Russel and Andrew Hardin at “Garage”. 30 people attended the consert. We all sang along to the tunes we knew. I sang along, second voice harmony on Navajo Rug. Tom set his eyes on me and said “louder!”. Later he signed the concert poster and a LP. “You should make more out of your voice” he said . I never did.
ayayay, Tui Lui, those were the days, huh? Tom Russell and Tom Waits and Bergen drenched in rain and torched by the sun and philosophy as the new rock’n’roll and tuesday nights at Rica and …. let’s not forget “kaffimad” 😀
“you should make more out of ….” – stories of our lives, pal!
