Not A Sound, Except Muted Country Music (Inland Empire)
Wednesday, 16th October 2013.
we ride the train inland from Bergen to Voss. it’s a grey and cloudy day, and there’s nothing spectacular about the ride. most of us are quiet, and try to rest.
there’s a car waiting at the station. we drive out of Voss and into the mountains, to Norheim, where some of the most exiting Norwegian craft beers are brewed today. the clouds break up as we reach the brewery. the view from the tasting terraces is amazing. sheep are grazing down below, and there’s not a sound to be heard except muted country music seeping out from Ian, the American brewmaster’s music player.
this is the inland empire.

And that makes all the difference, buddy. The first beer & the haze lifted & the view is amazing. We know why we do what we do. With all these muted country songs & city blues in our minds & these beers in our throats. That makes all the difference, buddy.

ay, Fritsch, buddy, these guys at Voss Brewery have certainly found their country home – I wouldn’t mind a place like that (with a brewery downstairs 😀 ) to kick back and enjoy life ..
(oh, and a week or two later I would probably feel that old restlessness, and long for city noise and downtown blues again, pal, that downtown blues ….)

ay, Marie, dei er flinke folk og det er ein vakker stad dei har slått seg ned på, og eg er så glad når eg ser at innflytterar tek tak i gamle tradisjonar som Vossaølet og bles liv i dei og skapar noko nytt og spanande – alle gode ynskjer til folket på Norheim!

edit: eg må berre sei dette, Marie – no som me har ei blåblå helvetes-regjering så må me småfolket stå opp mot baronane og rikingane og Ringesane og gjere kva me kan for at dette landet ikkje blir eit helvete å leve i!
